About Dr. Meera Selvakone MD CFPC

Dr. Meera Selvakone is a Family Physician in Richmond Hill, Ontario.  She attended medical school at the University of British Columbia, and completed her Family Medicine Residency at St. Michael’s Hospital, Toronto, in 2003.  Born in the UK and raised by physician parents of Tamil heritage, Meera has long held an interest in Global Health and Advocacy.  Following the 2004 Asian Tsunami disaster, Meera traveled to North-East Sri Lanka with the International Medical Health Organization (IMHO) to provide medical assistance to tsunami survivors.  Meera spearheaded the Save the Doctors Campaign in 2009, for the release of three doctors detained at the end of the Sri Lankan civil war.  Meera currently heads the Northern Province Palliative Care Initiative, a grass-roots effort to build a palliative care system for war-affected regions in Northern Sri Lanka.  She served on the Board of Directors at the Canadian Tamil Congress and the Executive Committee of the Canadian Tamil Medical Association (CTMA).  Meera volunteers at the Centre for Leadership and Innovation (CFLI) teaching public speaking and leadership skills to youth.  In 2019, Meera was honoured by the Canadian Multicultural Council – Asians in Ontario as one of six “Asian Women in Leadership”.  Today, Meera enjoys a diverse family practice and is a busy mom of three.
